A website has been created to make it easy to donate to Indiana’s playground fundraising campaign.
Indiana this spring received “Playful City USA” designation from KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to saving play opportunities, especially playgrounds, for children. Through that status Indiana was also awarded a $20,000 grant to purchase new playground equipment for Indiana’s McGregor Park in the First Ward.
But the grant requires a $10,000 local match.
Roland Francis, Indiana’s assistant manager, said fundraising events are being planned, but donations for the match can be made now by visiting http://ourdream playground.kaboom.org/projects/10695-playful-indiana. There is a small fee to donate through the website.
While $10,000 is the minimum amount needed as a match to secure the grant for playground equipment, a few thousand more dollars would be helpful for surfacing and adding new benches and other amenities at the playground, Francis said.
The website also has a place for people to sign up to be volunteers to assemble the new playground equipment in the spring.
Donations to the campaign may also be made by mailing a check, payable to “Borough of Indiana Playground Fund” to Indiana Borough Administration Building, 80 N. Eighth St., Indiana, PA 15701. Enter “playground fund” on the check’s memo line.
