Jennifer Depto, of Patton, a student in Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s curriculum and instruction doctoral program, has been selected as a senior fellow for the U.S. State Department’s English Language Fellow Program.
As part of the fellowship, she will spend 10 months in Novosibirsk, Russia (the capital of Siberia), hosted by Novosibirsk State Technical University. She will work with professors there and at affiliated universities to promote educational effectiveness and to expand those institutions’ abilities to provide English instruction for a wider variety of student populations.
Depto, daughter of Theodore and Donna Depto, is a 1983 graduate of Cambria Heights High School. While at IUP she was selected for Kappa Delta Pi honor society. She currently works as the website manager for the Cambria Area Reading Council.
“I look forward to learning about Russian language and culture while broadening students’ academic and cultural experiences here and abroad by creating learning exchanges,” she said. “I am truly excited to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
The Fellow Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State within the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of English Language Programs, and is administered by the Center for Intercultural Education and Development at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. The objective of the program is to place talented, highly qualified U.S. educators with master’s degrees with a focus in English as a Second Language teaching and teaching English in all regions of the world.
