HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Derry's Phillippi takes second at national tourney

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Derry sophomore wrestler Micky Phillippi won six of seven matches to place second in the Super 32 Challenge on Sunday at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center.

Phillippi, the PIAA Class AA champion at 113 pounds last year as a freshman, won six straight matches in the two-day tournament to reach the 120-pound championship bout. He competed in a field of 74 wrestlers, 34 of whom were state champions.

In the finals, Phillippi dropped a 5-4 decision to Latrobe’s Luke Pletcher, who won the PIAA Class AAA title at 103 last year as a freshman.
