Numerous defendants have been named in criminal charges filed before Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Rega, of Blairsville. Criminal complaints and affidavits of probable cause are not evidence of guilt in a criminal case. Defendants are entitled to legal representation and have the right to question the witnesses and evidence presented against them during preliminary hearings in the district court and at trials in the county court of common pleas.

Charged were:

• Penny Shirley, no age provided, of Main Street, Black Lick, charged Sept. 24 by Blairsville police with theft by deception and theft by failure to make required funds Feb. 18 at Black Lick. A preliminary hearing is set for today.

• Guy N. Hopkins, 28, of Jeannette, charged Sept. 24 by Blairsville police with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct at 8:25 p.m. Sept. 20 at 131 N. Morrow St., Blairsville. A preliminary hearing is set for today.

• Jamie Lynn Campbell, 29, of Susan Drive, Blairsville, charged Sept. 24 by state police with retail theft at 7:46 p.m. Sept. 12 at Walmart, Burrell Township. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 6.

• Domer L. Sleasman, 50, of North Walnut Street, Blairsville, charged Sept. 20 by Blairsville police with driving under the influence of controlled substances July 28 on North Walnut Street, Blairsville. Sleasman’s blood test showed higher than therapeutic levels of lorazepam and carisoprodol in his system, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is set for today.

• Aaron Paul Heidenthal, 26, of West Indiana Street, Homer City, charged Sept. 18 by state police with felony counts of rape, sexual assault, two felony counts of aggravated indecent assault and two misdemeanor counts of indecent assault at 45 W. Indiana St., Center Township. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 20.

• Billy Ray Johnson, 50, of Green Valley Drive, Indiana, charged Oct. 1 by state police with simple assault, harassment, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct on Barkley Road, Conemaugh Township. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 27.

• Daniel Paul Sleasman, 42, of Somerset, charged Oct. 2 by state police with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct at 5:58 a.m. July 8 at 192 Barkley Road, Conemaugh Township. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 27.

• Amanda Sue Overly, 34, of Lear Street, Bolivar, charged Oct. 1 by state police with theft by unlawful taking at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at 134 Chestnut St., Robinson. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 20.

• Patrick Wayne Palmer, 27, of Dubois Way, Black Lick, charged Oct. 1 by state police with possession of drug paraphernalia (a stamp bag, syringe and spoon) at 10:55 p.m. Sept. 27 at 215 Main St., Apt. 1, Black Lick. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 6.

• Cody James Kuncher, 24, of Bentley Drive, Blairsville, charged Aug. 7 by state police with possession of drug paraphernalia at 6 p.m. July 26 at 107 Bentley Drive, Apt. 2, Blairsville. Prosecutors withdrew the charge, and Kuncher instead pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was fined.

• Christopher Alan Klingensmith, 42, of East Burrell Street, Blairsville, charged Sept. 5 by Blairsville police with harassment, simple assault and terroristic threats at 10 p.m. Aug. 27 at 23 E. Burrell St., Blairsville. His case is listed as inactive in court documents.
