HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Eight named to all-state team

Eight local players have been named to the Pennsylvania Football News all-state team.

Three players earned first-team recognition: Indiana senior Darrious Carter on the Class AAA defensive line; Ligonier Valley senior Alec Bloom at Class AA tight end; and Apollo-Ridge junior Tre Tipton at Class A defensive back.

Five other players were named to the Class A third team: Apollo-Ridge senior quarterback Jesse Zelonka as an athlete; West Shamokin junior Zac Horner as an athlete; Penns Manor seniors Luke Ruddock on the offensive line and John Stupic on the defensive line; and Homer-Center senior Mike Newhouse at linebacker.

Carter, Bloom and Tipton earlier received all-state recognition from The Associated Press. Carter has verbally committed to Temple, and Bloom has verbally committed to Connecticut.
