HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Marion Center's Glasser nets 31, milestone
January 18, 2014 10:39 AM

Apparently, Marion Center senior Chantel Glasser was destined to hit the 1,000-point mark for her career Friday night.

Needing to score 31 points to hit 1,000, Glasser did just that to power host Marion Center to a 73-36 win over Purchase Line in a Heritage Conference girls’ basketball game.

With 5:01 left in the game, and with the second-place Stingers enjoying a bulky lead, Glasser hit a pair of free throws to reach 1,000.

Glasser made 10 field goals and 11 of 15 free throws.

“I’m not surprised she did it,” Marion Center assistant coach Jim Rushton said. “She works so hard and her teammates always work hard to get her the ball. They made it more difficult by playing a box-and-one on her, but the student section was going crazy and added fuel to the fire. She was really pumped.”

Jenny Irvin scored 20 points and came up with a game-high five steals for Marion Center. Karlie Snyder dished out a game-high five assists.

Brooke Riva scored 18 points for Purchase Line.

Purchase Line’s Mikhala Stover left the game in the third quarter and was rushed to the hospital following a collision with a Marion Center player. There were no details concerning her condition.

Marion Center (11-3, 8-1) travels to Cambria Heights on Monday, and Purchase Line (2-12) plays host to Penns Manor on Tuesday.

BLAIRSVILLE 78, PENNS MANOR 44: Blairsville’s Chelsey Koren posted a triple-double, Laurel O’Barto scored a season-high 26 points, and the first-place Bobcats rolled over Penns Manor in a Heritage Conference game in Kenwood.

Koren racked up 20 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals and six assists. O’Barto dished out seven assists and made four 3-pointers and 4 of 4 free throws, and Nicole Boyer chipped in 17 points and seven assists.

Blairsville made nine 3s and 9 of 13 free throws.

Sarah DaBella scored 17 points to lead Penns Manor. Mary Roach added 12 points.

Blairsville (12-1, 8-0) plays host to Homer-Center today, and Penns Manor (4-10, 2-7) travels to Purchase Line on Tuesday.

UNITED 34, SALTSBURG 27: United built a four-point halftime lead and then limited Saltsburg to eight second-half points in a Heritage Conference game in Armagh.

The Lions extended their halftime lead and outscored Saltsburg 10-2 in the third quarter to carry a 12-point lead, 29-17, into the fourth.

“We put down a little challenge in the locker room to come out strong in the third quarter. We switched a few things up defensively, and they responded and played well,” United coach Lee Ann Ault said.

United’s Eden Bloom posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kylee Surike scored 10 points, and Taylor Mack had four steals.

Olivia Satler scored 12 points to lead Saltsburg.

Both teams play Tuesday. United (9-4, 7-2) plays host to Northern Cambria, and Saltsburg (6-8, 4-4) welcomes Blairsville.
