SALTSBURG — Dan Rose, a Saltsburg Borough resident, asked council at its meeting Monday to reprimand those Saltsburg residents and businesses owners who do not maintain their sidewalks.

According to a borough ordinance, Hruska said, a property owner has 24 hours from the time snow has stopped falling to clear their sidewalks.

“We’re going to have to talk about it as a council and hopefully work with the homeowners to try to convince everyone to get their sidewalks cleared,” Hruska said. Though it was not stated specifically what action would be taken, Hruska said council as well as the police department will begin addressing the issue with specific property owners.

“Falling and slipping on icy sidewalks (are safety concerns),” Hruska said, as well as the fact that it’s inconvenient to walk through snow.

Also on Monday, council:

• Accepted the resignation of Lorrie Johnson from the Parks and Recreation Board of Directors.

• Made a donation to the Lions Club for $500 to help with utility bills.
