ART/MUSEUM EXHIBITS

The Artists Hand Gallery, 732 Philadelphia St., Indiana, presents “Throw it in the Ocean,” works of the Three-Dimensional Design students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, through March 2. The Indiana Art Association presents through March 8:

• “Portraits from the Silver Screen,” 19 charcoal and graphite drawings from the early days of Hollywood by Dayas Silvis, in the Urgi Care facility at Indiana Regional Medical Center

• “Potpourri,” a mix of photography, fiber art, paintings, collages and drawings, by Trish Dodson, Ambulatory Surgical Center, IRMC

• “Blendship,” IAA artists exhibit together with acrylic paintings by Julie Knox, photography by Heather Russell, an oil painting by Gloria Doze-Czworka and collages by Hillary Brunwald and Heather Lipe, The Artists Hand Gallery, 732 Philadelphia St.

• “Nature and the World Around Us,” photographs by Heather Russell, Chalice Room, Calvary Presbyterian Church, 695 Church St. Visitors should use the School Street entrance and check in at the downstairs office.

The Indiana County Historical Museum, 621 Wayne Ave., Indiana, presents the following programs:

• Early cleaning methods, an exhibit focused on antique sweepers, vacuum cleaners and their predecessor, the rug beater

• “Celebrating 100 years of Girl Scouting,” an exhibit of uniforms, badges and other Girl Scout memorabilia

• 150th anniversary of the Civil War display, a look at the soldiers and civilians affected by the War Between the States

• “The One Room School House in Indiana County,” photographs and artifacts documenting the county’s early schools

• Continuous exhibits detailing the history of Indiana County, including the county’s history of coal mining, Native Americans and military personnel

Kipp Gallery in Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Sprowls Hall will present:

• “Children of the Romantic Age,” new artworks by Gwyneth Scally, March 6-27. The exhibit explores humanity’s romantic and catastrophic relationship with the natural world.

• Undergraduate Juried Exhibition, April 1-18. The student exhibits will feature a variety of works by undergraduate art majors.

The University Museum in Sutton Hall at IUP will present “Emerging Artists: Annual Graduate Exhibit,” through March 22.

The museum’s hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 2 to 6:30 p.m.; Thursdays, noon to 7:30 p.m.; and Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m.; closed Sunday, Monday and university holidays. Located on the first floor of IUP’s Sutton Hall, the museum is free and open to the community.

FILM

The Jimmy Stewart Museum, 835 Philadelphia St., Indiana, will present the following movies at 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in the third-floor theater:

• Saturday and Sunday, “The Gorgeous Hussy,” a 1936 production starring Stewart, Joan Crawford and Lionel Barrymore. President Andrew Jackson’s friendship with an innkeeper’s daughter spells trouble for them both.

• Feb. 15-16, “Born to Dance,” a 1936 production starring Stewart, Eleanor Powell and Buddy Ebsen. Powell bears out the title in this Cole Porter musical.

• Feb. 22- 23, “Seventh Heaven,” a 1937 production starring Stewart, Simone Simon and Jean Hersholt. A Parisian sewer worker (Stewart) longs for a rise in status and a beautiful wife. He rescues a girl (Simone Simon) from the police, lives with her in a barren flat on the seventh floor and then marches away to war.

Museum admission: members, free; adults, $7; seniors, military, students with ID, $6; children 7 to 17, $5; children under 7, free. Prices are subject to change without notice.
