Indiana swept its WPIAL Section 4-AA swimming finale Friday evening at IUP’s Memorial Field House. The boys’ team won, 146-4, and the girls’ squad won, 143-22.
Joey Churner (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle) and Ben Peng (50 freestyle, 500 freestyle) led the boys’ team with two individual victories each. Logan Hess (200 individual medley), John Zarpentine (100 butterfly), Brendan Bertig (100 backstroke) and Wei-Wei Wu (100 breaststroke) also claimed first-place finishes.
Indiana’s teams in the 200 medley relay (Grant Hess, Peng, Frank Bevevino and Dylan Rinehart), 200 freestyle relay (Rinehart, Adam Henderson, Wu and Bevevino) and 400 freestyle relay (Zarpentine, Churner, Bevevino and Logan Hess) added victories.
Eliza O’Neal (200 freestyle), Anna Manges (200 individual medley), Sarah Henderson (50 freestyle), Anna Paccapaniccia (100 freestyle), Sophie Manges (500 freestyle) and Gabby Bobak (100 breaststroke) were the girls’ first-place finishers.
Indiana also won all three relay events. The 200 medley relay consisted of Michelle Sgro, Bobak, Anna Manges and Sophie Manges; the 200 freestyle relay featured Sarah Henderson, O’Neal, Sophie Manges and Paccapaniccia; and the 400 freestyle relay included Sophie Manges, O’Neal, Bobak and Paccapaniccia.
Both Indiana teams concluded the regular season at 8-2, 6-0 in the section. Indiana will compete in the WPIAL Championships on Feb. 27 and 28.
