BLAIRSVILLE — This week, rehearsal began for the Blairsville High School musical performance of “Seussical The Musical.”

Auditions were held on Jan. 27 in the Blairsville Center for the Performing Arts. During auditions, each student was required to sing “Oh,

The Thinks You Can Think.” If the student wanted a lead role, they were required to read a paragraph of their character’s part.

Auditions were held in front of director Sean Barrett, who was hired from outside the school district to put on the production.

Barrett is a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania theater department.

“Seussical the Musical” is a compilation of the Dr. Seuss tales “Horton Hears a Who,” “Horton Hatches the Egg,” “The One Feather Tail of Gertrude McFuzz” and “The Cat In The Hat.” All the stories are brought together by the Cat in the Hat, played by Viviane Marx.

But this does not mean this year’s musical is a one-star show.

There are nine more lead roles for other character performances: Jesse Chovanec as Jo-Jo; David Kukura as Horton; Samantha Chov-anec as Gertrude; Adriana Lamantia as Mayzie; Ashlee Steiner as The Sour Kangaroo; Danny Marx as The Grinch; Angela Deyarmin as Cindy Lou Who; Cameron Clausner as Mr. Mayor; and Diane Knox as Mrs. Mayor.

Performances are scheduled for April 10, 11 and 12.
