A 19-year-old Creekside man stole a rifle and ammunition from a Washington Township home on Thursday and pedaled a bicycle to another home a few miles away, where he threatened to take his own life, according to state police in Indiana.

Police said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. as the man, who was not identified by police, took the rifle from a home along Five Points Road and loaded it. He then rode a bicycle to another home along Route 119 in Rayne Township, and once there, tapped on a window, according to police.

When the home’s residents looked outside, they found the man standing along the road holding the rifle. He threatened to kill himself, but was disarmed by a neighbor, police said.

The man was then taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
