Members of the Seeds of Faith Christian Academy girls’ basketball team have kept themselves quite busy during the first two weeks of March.
The team welcomed March by holding a soup and sandwich fundraiser dinner at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in White Township. The girls, coaches and parent volunteers brought in various soups and desserts to serve. Desserts were also prepared for a bake sale during the dinner.
The team ordered subs from Ninth Street Deli in Indiana to serve along with the meal.
An auction was also held after the meal. The auction was made possible by donations from many local businesses. The fundraiser was a success and the girls raised the money they needed to pay for their trip to a tournament in Erie.
The next exciting event in their busy schedule was senior night. Senior night had originally been planned for Feb. 14. It was postponed, however, due to bad weather conditions.
Eventually the night was rescheduled to March 3.
During the game, the team honored its only senior, Hannah Shirley. Shirley has been playing varsity basketball since sixth grade, and has had the opportunity to play for Seeds of Faith for the past three years.
Throughout her varsity career she has accumulated more than 1,100 points. Shirley was also selected to All-Stars first team for the third year in a row.
Shirley plans to attend Bob Jones University in Green-ville, S.C., in the fall. She will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. While at BJU, she plans to play for the Lady Bruins basketball team. Shirley is excited to see what God has planned for her.
The Seeds of Faith girls’ basketball team finished the season with a basketball tournament in Erie. The team has attended the NCSAA tournament three years in a row. Team members left early on March 5 to make the trip to Erie. The girls played three games and competed very well. Teams from all across the country came to play three solid days of basketball.
Overall, the players had a great season to grow and develop their talents.
