May 02, 2014 10:30 AM

Homer-Center held visiting Purchase Line scoreless after a wild first inning and defeated the Red Dragons, 9-3, in a Heritage Conference baseball game Thursday at First Commonwealth Field.

Purchase Line took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Luke Barnett’s bases-loaded walk, Mike Cramer’s fielder’s choice and Dakota Bartlebaugh’s RBI single.

But the Wildcats countered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and rolled from there.

Anthony Caruso settled down to get the win, striking out six and walking five, allowing three runs on three hits in five innings. Stephen McLoughlin struck out three in two innings for the save.

Ean Lee went 3-for-3, stole five bases and scored two runs for Homer-Center.

Caruso clubbed a two-run double in the sixth inning, when the Wildcats added three insurance runs.

Caruso and Jimmy Bence finished 2-for-4. Andrew Gaydosh also scored twice.

Barnett struck out two and walked three in five innings, taking the loss.

Both teams play today. Homer-Center (6-8, 5-6 Heritage Conference) visits United, and Purchase Line (2-11) welcomes Ligonier Valley.
