IUP’s Krista Matsko has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.

Matsko, a senior hurdler from Clarks Summit and Abington Heights High School, is the first IUP woman since Amber Plowden in 2002 to earn the honor.

Matsko earned All-America recognition by placing seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, .06 seconds last month at the NCAA Division II Championships. She also won the PSAC title in the event and placed second in the 100 hurdles at 14.19. She also ran on the 4x400 relay team that placed fourth in the PSAC meet in a school-record time of 3:52.88.

GOLF: Zack Kempa has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II men’s at-large first team.

A native of Ontario, Kempa is IUP’s first first-team Academic All-America selection since Missy Swindel (women’s soccer) in 2005. It is also his second career selection after earning a second-team honor last year.

IUP’s top player the last two seasons, Kempa graduated last month with a 3.675 cumulative grade-point average in marketing.

Kempa was twice named the PSAC Golfer of the Year.

SWIMMING: IUP’s Allyson Mitidieri has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II Women’s at-large second team.

It is Mitidieri’s first career Academic All-America selection and the first for an IUP women’s swimmer.

IUP’s top swimmer the last two seasons, Mitidieri graduated last month with a 3.57 cumulative grade-point average in nutrition and dietetics.

Mitidieri, from Cherry Hill, N.J., earned four All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Swimming Championships last month and finished her career with nine.
