A number of people turned out Wednesday for the Indiana County NAACP’s Juneteenth celebration at Mack Park in White Township, where they enjoyed a family-style cookout, music, games and other activities.

Juneteenth, known as Emancipation Day, is observed in many states to celebrate the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Texas, the last state to do so, on June 19, 1865. (Mike Walker/Gazette photo)
