WHITE TOWNSHIP: Speed ordinance changed

White Township supervisors have adopted an ordinance setting a 35 mph speed limit on St. Clair Road.

The supervisors adopted the ordinance during a brief meeting Wednesday. The action was more of a formality than anything — the road has long been posted as having a 35 mph speed limit.

But as a result of a recent inquiry, the township discovered that it had never adopted an ordinance to establish the limit, according to Chris Anderson, assistant township manager.

Also Wednesday, supervisors agreed to advertise an ordinance that would prohibit parking on the east side of Lilac Street, from Oakland Avenue to Warren Road.

Anderson said the move is meant to allow traffic to move more freely. That’s especially so in the winter, when plowed snow piles up and forces people to park farther out onto the road, effectively narrowing it to a one-way street.
