Sheriff banned from part of office

BEAVER (AP) — A western Pennsylvania sheriff has been banned from parts of his own department for allegedly violating bond terms while he awaits trial.

A judge on Friday ruled that Beaver County Sheriff George David may no longer enter the criminal side of the sheriff’s office. The state attorney general’s office said that David violated his bond by having contact with two deputies who are witnesses against him.

David was arrested in March on charges he threatened to cut a political campaign worker’s hands off and shoot an online news reporter. Authorities said the charges stem from encounters since November 2011.

David denies the charges and remains in office because county officials are powerless to remove him and state legislators haven’t tried to.
