FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was indicted in an alleged jail assault in February and an alleged threat at the jail last November.

The Bristol County district attorney’s office said Hernandez was indicted on charges of assault and battery and threats to do bodily harm. The statement said the alleged assault occurred Feb. 25 at the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth, and the alleged threat occurred there on Nov. 1.

• EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Eli Manning will miss all of the New York Giants’ spring activities.

General manager Jerry Reese said that Manning’s left ankle surgery will keep him “out of spring ball.”

“We will not rush him back,” Reese said. “We want him for the summer — that’s most important to us.”

• MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice pleaded not guilty to assault charges stemming from an incident with his then-girlfriend in an Atlantic City casino elevator. His lawyer said Rice is “ashamed” and “sorry” about his conduct but would not specify exactly what Rice did.

After the five-minute court hearing, Rice applied for New Jersey’s pretrial intervention program, which allows for charges to be dismissed against first-time offenders who participate in the program and meet certain conditions. The county prosecutor will decide whether Rice is allowed to enter the program.

• BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Browns signed free agent quarterback Vince Young, who hasn’t played in an NFL regular-season game since 2011.

Young was given a tryout this week at Browns’ three-day minicamp and showed enough to earn a deal. The team also signed quarterback Tyler Thigpen.

• UNDATED (AP) — The Denver Broncos exercised their 2015 option on pass-rusher Von Miller.

He now has two years remaining on his rookie deal. He’ll make $3.25 million this upcoming season and $9.754 million in 2015 if he’s on the Broncos roster next March.
