N.J. sees drop in beach revenue

on July 28, 2013 2:30 AM

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Towns up and down the Jersey shore devastated by Superstorm Sandy are seeing declines in beach revenue despite racing to rebuild in time for tourist season.

All eight shore towns responding to a survey by The Associated Press reported declines in beach attendance and revenue by the thousands as of the third week in July.

They blame early decision-making by some regulars to book trips elsewhere, fewer rentals, delayed beach openings and changes to the school calendar.
