HARMONY: Singers attend county chorus
WESTOVER — On Oct. 26-28, five students from Harmony High School traveled to Curwensville High School to participate in the Clearfield County Chorus Festival.
Participating schools from Clearfield County included Clearfield, Curwensville, Harmony, Glendale, Mo-shannon Valley, Philipsburg-Osceola and West Branch. Saturday and Monday consisted of practicing to prepare for the concert on Monday evening.
The junior high opened the concert, conducted by the directors of the various participating schools.
They sang five songs, including “Danny Boy” and “This Is My Song!”
The senior high followed, directed by a guest conductor, Dan Meredith. Meredith teaches vocal music to kindergarten to 12th-grade students in the Southern Fulton School District. He also directs various choirs throughout the area.
Meredith composed many songs and has recorded several CDs.
His recordings are available on the Internet and have been downloaded more than 140,000 times and in every country of the world.
The senior high chorus sang eight songs, including “God Bless America,” “Battle of Jericho” and “The Music of My Life” written by Meredith.
RED RIBBON WEEK
During Halloween week, student council held Red Ribbon Week, which was a big success. During each day of the week, there was a theme that students could dress for. There was a risky choice, and a less risky choice to ensure more participation.
Monday was Comfy Cozy, Crazy Sock or Mismatch Day.
Tuesday was Sports, Harmony or Twin Day. Students wore their sport jerseys and Harmony gear.
On Wednesday, students dressed up like the “Duck Dynasty” family in camouflage and hats.
Since Thursday was Halloween, the students could wear their Halloween costumes or have crazy hair, but they could also participate by simply wearing orange and black.
Friday was the final day of Red Ribbon Week, and it was a unique mixture of characters, students wearing formal clothes and others dressing up like cowboys and rednecks.
It was announced that the senior class won Red Ribbon Week with the most participation. Their prize was receiving free ice cream during lunch.
