As the winter months approach, many athletes are preparing for their basketball seasons. Monday kicked off the start of Seeds of Faith Christian Academy’s basketball season.

Seeds of Faith will have three teams representing the school this year: varsity girls, junior high boys and elementary. Each team anticipates a fun, intense season. The girls’ basketball team had a winning season last year and expects nothing less this year.

Seeds of Faith last year graduated two starting senior guards, who will be missed, but many younger players are willing to step up and begin their career as a varsity player. The girls’ basketball team is coached by Jason Marshall, the kindergarten teacher at SFCA, and assisted by Nicole Griffith, a former teacher at SFCA. The team kicks off its season on Dec. 12, with a home opener against Evangel Heights Christian Academy.

Excitement for the season is a mutual feeling in both the girls’ varsity basketball team and the junior high boys’ basketball team. Two of last year’s starting seniors for the boys varsity team graduated, leaving the team with a few empty seats. Seed of Faith decided this year to have a junior high boys’ team that could compete well and will look to the future to build a varsity program.

The junior high also began practicing on Monday. The team is being coached by Will Rush this season. This is Rush’s first year coaching, and he has been preparing to lead the team to victory.

Finally, the elementary team, which also had a winning season last year, is getting ready to improve its fundamental skills. The students start with basic basketball drills at the beginning of the season, but by the end they will be ready for the next level of play.

Staff and students of Seeds of Faith understand that winning is not everything and that winning can be a product of hard work. Win or lose, God gets the glory.
