ARMAGH — During the last weeks of September and the first weeks of October there are three events — Gnimocemoh, homecoming and the homecoming dance — that get United High School students into a school spirit frenzy.

First there is the Gnimocemoh game, which is a flag football game between the junior class and senior class girls.

While the girls compete against each other on the football field, the boys put on cheerleading skirts and cheer them on. This year’s Gnimocemoh game was a fierce competition, but in the end, the seniors won the game, 24-14. Some credit must be given to the junior class girls, however, as they got their game face on and scored 14 points after halftime.

During halftime of this game, the Gnimocemoh king was crowned. Boys on the court were seniors Jacob Beaker, Blake Brendlinger, Michael Gill, Justin LaRock, Tyler Mack, Weylon McGeary, Brett Ramer, Thomas Schillinger and Tayler Sheriff. Because of a tie, two kings were crowned — LaRock and Schillinger.

When asked about being chosen as king, Schillinger said, “I was shocked and surprised; I didn’t think that many people voted for me.”

LaRock stated, “I felt honored and surprised.”

On Friday, Oct. 4, United played its traditional homecoming football game, and the homecoming queen was crowned. The senior girls on homecoming court this year were Lyda Bartlebaugh, Kennedy Fletcher, Laken Pudliner, Taylor Marcus, Jennifer Mazey, Savannah Rohrabaugh, Emili Spaid, Hannah Stephens and Mattie Weaver.

At halftime Marcus was crowned. As she said afterward, “I was surprised but very happy that I was picked.”

Finally on Saturday, United held its annual homecoming dance. The theme this year was “Drops of Jupiter,” a space theme. According to both Schillinger and Marcus, everyone had a “blast.”
