Gaskill Township, Jefferson County

State police reported that Dennis Coombs, of Rossiter, suffered a minor injury at 1:44 a.m. Wednesday in a freak towing accident on Mill Road.

According to a report, Coombs was at the wheel of a Ford Explorer being towed with a chain by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Christopher Mitchell, when the Explorer crossed into the oncoming lane, passed the Silverado and tugged it off its course.

As both vehicles skidded off the road, the Silverado hit a tree, and as the chain was pulled taut, the Explorer flipped onto its side.

Troopers said Coombs, 24, was sent to Punxsutawney Hospital “for precautionary measures.”

East Wheatfield Township

A Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle driven by Darren Smith, of Armagh, wrecked at 7:08 p.m. Monday on Route 403 at Tomb School Road, state police reported.

Investigators said the motorcycle went out of control when a part touched the pavement while Smith, 59, rounded a curve.

Citizens’ Ambulance Service paramedics transported Smith to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of minor “road rash” injuries, according to the report.

Young Township, Jefferson County

A garbage truck driven by Harry Conser, of Punxsutawney, hit a mail truck driven by Billie Brewer, of Punxsutawney, as Conser backed the truck on Garzoni Road at 12:43 p.m. Tuesday, according to a report.

No one was injured; the mail truck required towing, state police said.
