The Blairsville-Saltsburg school board will consider approval of a temporary position related to the possible reconfiguration of the school district at a special meeting.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Saltsburg Middle/High School cafeteria.

According to a Sunshine Notice, the board will convene in a private executive session to discuss personnel ahead of the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting agenda, available on the district’s website, contains a motion to consider appointing Dr. Charles Koren “in a temporary position, to act as a facilitator regarding deliberations to discuss and investigate the possibility of reconfiguration within the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District at a fee of $50 per hour and not to exceed $20,000.”

Koren retired in September as superintendent of the Homer-Center School District, where he served

in the position for seven years.

At December’s meeting, with a new board majority willing to consider options for combining the district’s schools, the board reopened discussion on consolidation.

The discussion drew criticism from the board’s representatives from the Saltsburg region.
