The Right Rev. Archmandrite Pitirim (Stehnach), of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Black Lick, will be honored for 50 years of ordination during the 10 a.m. ceremony Sunday at the church, with Archbishop Melchedeck, of Pittsburgh, as celebrant.

Born Peter Stehnach on Aug. 15, 1928, in Conemaugh, he is the son of Michael Stehnach and Mary Glova. He was the sixth of nine children, eight boys and one girl. He graduated from East Mahoning High School in 1946, then served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-56 and performed two tours of duty with the Marines.

He was ordained to the priesthood on May 19, 1963. He has been at St. John the Baptist since January 2008. (Submitted photo)
