Area 4-H members compete in communication techniques
Fifteen Indiana County 4-H members recently tested their communications skills at the annual Indiana County 4-H Presentation Contest. Members competed in presentations, public speeches, impromptu speeches and dramatic interpretation.
The contest included such varied topics as quilting, clothing, flag facts, beekeeping, history of the American Revolution and animal science.
Blue ribbon winners in presentations included Sarah Jones, senior home and family management; Alexis Elgin, senior animal science; Brayden Spencer, junior engineering; and Abigail Bruner and Elizabeth Bruner, junior general. Terri Bugay won a red ribbon in junior clothing, and Samantha Bugay won a white ribbon in senior clothing.
Public speaking winners with blue ribbons in the senior division were Sarah Jones and Alexis Elgin. In the junior division, Elizabeth Bruner and Brayden Spencer won blue ribbons, and Bergen Spencer won a red ribbon.
In the impromptu speaking contest, senior division blue ribbon winners were Alexis Elgin, Jesse Isenberg and Sarah Jones. Katelin Olson won a red ribbon, and Samantha Bugay won a white ribbon. In the junior division, blue ribbons went to Elizabeth Bruner, Abigail Bruner, Micah Nygren, Terri Bugay, Bergen Spencer, Brayden Spencer, Andrea Davis and Blake Davis. Isaac Nygren won a red ribbon, and John Clark Bruner participated as a cloverbud.
In dramatic interpretation, senior Jesse Isenberg won a red ribbon, and juniors Bergen Spencer and Elizabeth Bruner won blue and red ribbons.
Judges for the contest included Mary Miller and Kitty Eget, 4-H leaders; Jackie Beisel and Jacob Beisel, former 4-H members; Ray Beisel, former 4-H leader; and Bruce Jenkins, representing the Indiana Kiwanis Club. Room chairwomen included 4-H leaders Donna Meyer and Lori Richardson and former member Nichele Olson. The contest was coordinated by Debbie Beisel, summer assistant. The Indiana Kiwanis Club was the sponsor the contest and provided financial incentives for the participants.
