CLUB NEWS: AARP Evergreen Chapter
AARP Evergreen Chapter #2581 members were greeted by Gertrude Belletieri, Bruce Jenkins, and Jim and Sarah Craig at the January meeting. President Marvin Sheffler called the meeting to order. The club motto, “to serve, not to be served,” was recited.
Don George gave the invocation followed by members standing to pledge the flag. Bruce Jenkins led the singing of “God Bless America.”
Birthdays for January were recognized. Secretary Viona Sesti read the minutes of the previous meeting. Treasurer Robert Whitmer gave the treasurer’s report.
Judy Bash reported a trip is planned to see the production of “Moses” in Lancaster on May 15. The bus will leave from Johnstown. Legislative chairman Jack Stile gave a report on several issues affecting senior citizens.
Wilda Overdorff was recognized for her many years as refreshment chairwoman. Vice President Helen Whitmer appointed Bill Overdorff to report to the chapter about the needs of Tomorrow’s Hope, a military homeless shelter.
Members started to sign up for food items for the March luncheon. After the business meeting was adjourned, Donna Flinko and Marlene Stotsky took blood pressures.
John Busovicki spoke on the history of Indiana County.
The afternoon concluded with refreshments and fellowship.
