Club News: Smicksburg United Methodist Women
The Smicksburg United Methodist Women met at 7 p.m. Nov. 13. There were 15 members and five youth present. The devotions were a Scripture reading and “Footprints.” The program was a presentation about adoption for National Adoption Month and also Scripture.
The minutes from the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved as read.
The annual Christmas banquet will be Dec. 11 in place of the regular meeting. The entire church family is invited. The banquet will be held at the church and will be catered.
The United Methodist Women district officers have requested the use of the church for their annual meeting. The club will contact them that they may use the church.
The club is making Christmas gift baskets for shut-ins again this year. Three baskets will be made by mid-December. Names were drawn for secret sisters for 2014.
As in past years, the club will add $50 to what they have collected for the Thank Offering. They decided on their 2014 Mission Pledge. It will be the same as this year. Also the disbursement of funds for 2013 was finalized. Many local and national charities were supported as well as local families. The club is honoring two church members with recognition pins and sending donations to the District UMW in memory and in honor of several people.
The meeting was closed with the reading of the litany. After the prayer, there was a snack and door prizes were awarded.
