Conservancy schedules annual meeting
The Conemaugh Valley Conservancy will host its annual meeting May 8 at 6 p.m. at the Blairsville Italian Club.
The meeting will feature a presentation by Scott Roberts titled “Big Clean Up On The Little Conemaugh River.” The consultant and former deputy secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Mineral Resources Management will address massive efforts to clean up the abandoned mine drainage on the Little Conemaugh River, a major tributary in the Kiski-Conemaugh River Basin.
The Office of Mineral Resources Management is responsible for developing and implementing Pennsylvania’s policies and programs for surface and underground coal and industrial mineral mining, oil and gas exploration and production, deep mine safety and the reclamation of abandoned mines and wells. The direct economic impact of these programs in Pennsylvania exceeds $2 billion annually.
Mike Kane, executive director, will discuss the impact of clean waterways on our region’s families, communities and economy.
