Indiana County salutes its veterans
The following Veterans Day events and activities are scheduled for today in Indiana County:
A parade featuring Indiana area veterans, military units and dignitaries will begin at 10:30 this morning on Philadelphia Street. The units will pause for a memorial program at the court house at 11:00.
A memorial dedication will be held immediately following the Veterans Day Parade at the Silas M. Clark House, Wayne Avenue, Indiana. The Indiana County Civil War Memorial Committee cordially invites the community to a memorial dedication honoring Indiana County’s Civil War veterans. CHERRY TREE — The Cherry Tree Civic Club will be offering a free Veterans Day luncheon for active-duty and retired military personnel from the Cherry Tree area on today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Cherry Tree Borough building.

The Homer City American Legion Post #493 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the American Legion with a light lunch to follow. The public is invited.

The First Baptist Church of Glen Campbell will conduct a Community Veterans Day service of sacred worship at 2:30 p.m. tpday in honor of all the U.S. veterans who have faithfully served their country.
The service is intended for everyone in the general public.
The service is in cooperation with the Glen Campbell Pennington-Fee American Legion Post and its members. The Rev. Dr. Allan N. Campbell will lead the worship, which is open to the entire community, and will deliver a message titled “Remembering Their Sacrifices.”
A color guard from the Glen Campbell American Legion will be in attendance. Following the worship service a dinner will be held at the legion, sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary. Organist for this service will be Robert Copeland.

The Blairsville Community Concert Band will present its annual Veterans Day performance at 7 p.m. Monday at the Center for the Performing Arts at Blairsville High School.
Admission is free, but donations to support the band will be accepted.

NEW FLORENCE — An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at Faith Lutheran Church, 6810 Route 22, New Florence.
The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, green beans, Italian bread, assorted cakes and drinks.
Local veterans will be on hand to accept a free-will offering. Takeout is available.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Tomorrow’s Hope Transitional Housing and Service Center for veterans, 6260 Heverly Blvd., Coalport.

Blairsville Cemetery and SS. Simon and Jude Cemetery have one of the most dramatic patriotic displays in Indiana County.
Thanks to the volunteers who helped to put up the extensive display of approximately 426 American flags honoring those who served. The cemetery administrators are in need of additional assistance:
• Nov. 12, at 9 a.m., to take down the flags. If the weather is wet this date, the flags will be taken down on Nov. 13.
• Nov. 16, at 8 a.m., to take down and store the markers and poles.
Volunteers should meet at the cemetery office.

The Indiana Free Library is closed for the holiday.

The St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Valeski’s BiLo Plaza in White Township will celebrate Veterans Day all week with a special sale.
Choose any clothing that contains the colors red, white or blue and pay only $2 for each item. A wide variety of sweaters, coats, dresses and other attire is available.
As always, proceeds benefit the needy.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its center in the Indiana Mall, will be closed today in observance of Veterans Day.
Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.state.pa.us.
There are no additional fees for using online services.
Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver’s license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver’s license and photo ID duplicates; and driver exam scheduling.
