Library announces free programs

The Indiana Free Library, 845 Philadelphia St., offers the following free programs for the week of June 16:


• Movie Monday, 10:30 p.m.: All kids invited for a movie and popcorn. This week, enjoy “Gnomeo and Juliet.”

• Dr. Irwin Marcus Lecture, 1 p.m.: “Oil, Iran and the U.S. Foreign Policy, 1953-2013.” To understand our current quarrel with top Iranian government officials, placing the present in historical context is vital. The perspectives of both the United States and Iran will be explored. Refreshments provided.

• Special Program, 7 p.m.: “Joined As Brothers.” In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, Nikki Cravotta of the Indiana County Historical and Genealogical Society will present a history of black soldiers during the Civil War. Refreshments provided.


• Tuesday Tales, 10:30 a.m.: “Just Dig It!” Stories, songs, movement exercises and a craft for toddlers and preschoolers.

• Teen Summer Reading Program, 3 p.m.: “Duct Tape Mania.” Craft, book discussion and snack.


• Family Program, 10:30 a.m.: “Dirt on Dirt.” Master Gardener Cinda Krouk will show how to plant a successful garden, with children following her advice as they plant their own. For children of all ages.

• Tabletop Games Night, 5:30 p.m.: Families and adult players are invited to try some of the library’s dozens of board and card games. Library card required to checkout games for the evening.

• Craft Wednesdays, 7 p.m.: “Garden Crafts.” An evening program featuring crafts from the morning children’s programs.


• Express Yourself!, 10:30 a.m.: Creative writing program for children ages 8 and up. Journals will be provided.

• Pins and Patches Quilting Group, 1 p.m.: For those working on a project or looking to learn. Refreshments provided.
