Scholarships offered

• This year Indiana VFW Post 1989 will award four scholarship grants of $3,000 to students currently attending an Indiana County high school.

The student applying must already be accepted to a college or university.

Interested students must provide the VFW Scholarship Committee with a letter of application stating: the reason why scholarship assistance is needed; family size and makeup of ages; parents’ occupations and income; other scholarship aid applied for to date and status of such aid; any other information that could be helpful; proof of acceptance to a college or university; an official transcript of applications; academic record from his or her respective high school.

Completed applications should be sent to the Scholarship Review Committee, VFW Post 1989, 824 Indian Springs Road, Indiana, PA 15701.

• The Indiana Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club federation of Pennsylvania, District VI, annually awards a minimum of one $500 scholarship from the Julia Pound/Alice O’Dell scholarship fund for students entering college or graduate school with a major of ecology, horticulture, landscape design, landscape architecture, conservation, botany, forestry, agriculture, or earth sciences. The student must be a resident of Indiana County.

Students will be notified by mail before Aug. 1 if they have been awarded a scholarship.

• The Mu Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international sorority for women educators, is offering a $750 scholarship award to a girl who will graduate from the Indiana Area, Homer-Center, Blairsville-Saltsburg or Purchase Line school districts.

The recipient must be accepted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania for the 2014-15 school year as well as major in a field of education. Applicants will be considered on the basis of scholastic achievement as well as school and community involvement.
