Special services planned for Easter week
The following area churches will be having special Easter/Easter Week services:
Alverda Christian Church. Palm Sunday service, 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Distribution of the palms. Special music. Preacher: Pastor Prewitt Duncan. Sunday school, 9:45 a.m. Good Friday service, 2 p.m. Friday. Special music by Connie Trinkley and Larry Mack. Preacher: Pastor Prewitt Duncan. Egg hunt for youths to follow.
Ambrose Baptist Church, Marion Center. Easter sunrise service at 7:30 p.m. March 31 with the Rev. Raymond A.P. Mialki offering the message “What Does All This Mean?” Scriptures are Luke 22:1-20. A balloon launch will follow and breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Armagh Pentacostal Tabernacle Church, Armagh. Easter sunrise service, 8 a.m. March 31, followed by breakfast. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., morning worship and Communion service at 10:30 a.m. Following the services, there will be an Easter egg hunt for the children.
Bethel Presbyterian Church. There will be an Easter party and egg hunt from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. A Maundy Thursday bread and soup dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a Communion service at 7:15 p.m.
Black Lick Circuit United Methodist Churches, serving Black Lick, Hopewell and Strangford churches. Maundy Thursday service, 7 p.m. Thursday, Strangford Church, 1680 Strangford Road, Blairsville. Good Friday service, 7 p.m. Friday, Black Lick Church, 36 Walnut St., Black Lick. Easter sunrise service, 6:30 a.m. March 31, Hopewell Church, 150 Hopewell Road, Blairsville. Easter morning worship services, March 31: 8:30 a.m. Strangford; 9:40 a.m. Hopewell; and 11 a.m. Black Lick. The public is invited to celebrate the season of Easter with any of our congregations at any location.
Calvary Bible Church, 2712 Pine Vale Road, near Rochester Mills. An Easter service will be held at 9 a.m. March 31, followed by a covered-dish breakfast fellowship meal. At 11 a.m., the church choir will present an Easter Cantata consisting of songs about the resurrection with Bible narration in it. Everyone is invited to attend.
Cherry Tree Presbyterian Church. Maundy Thursday service, 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Holy Communion. Easter sunrise service, 6:30 a.m. March 31. Yellow Creek State Park. Regular Sunday service.
Clymer Alliance Church, 690 Franklin St., Clymer. At 7 p.m. Good Friday, a re-enactment of “The Passion of the Christ” will be held at the church. Free refreshments will be available.
A sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday, March 31, followed by an Easter egg hunt for the children and a potluck continental breakfast for everyone. (Please bring light breakfast food to share). Plan to stay for Sunday school at 10 a.m. and morning worship at 11 a.m.
Clymer Presbyterian Church. Christian Seder supper, 6 p.m. Maundy Thursday. The meal will be similar to the way Jesus and his disciples would have eaten at the Last Supper. The meal is free. For more information or to let the church office know you are coming, call (724) 254-9931.

Heilwood Presbyterian Church. Good Friday service, 7:30 p.m. Friday. Easter sunrise service, 6:30 a.m., March 31, Yellow Creek State Park. Regular Sunday service.
Independent Traditional Holiness Church, 5065 Ferguson Road, Indiana. The annual Easter cantata will be held on Palm Sunday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. This service will feature the Southern gospel music group CrossOver, and other musicians, as well as the church choir, under the direction of Fred and Anita Stevens. A time for food and fellowship will follow the service. The Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m., with a family-style Communion service.
Easter Sunday, March 31, a sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. (weather permitting). There will be a light breakfast following the service. A special Easter program will be presented by the children and youths at 9:45 a.m.
The Easter celebration service will begin at 10:40 a.m. At 6 p.m. Sunday, there will be a Concert of Praise, with songs of praise, testimonies of thanksgiving and praise to God, as well as the reading of Scriptures expressing joy and praise to God.
Kenwood Church of the Nazarene. Good Friday service, 7 p.m. Friday. Communion. The “Seven Last Words” of Jesus on the cross will be portrayed through Scripture and music. All are invited attend and participate.
Maple Grove Church of God, Laurel Run Road, Penn Run. The Penn Run area community sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. March 31.
Marion Center First United Methodist Church. Good Friday service, 7 p.m., Friday.
Marion Center Presbyterian Church. A Seder meal with pot luck menu will be held on Maundy Thursday at 6:30 p.m. A community Tenebrae service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday at Gilgal Presbyterian Church. Easter Sunday, March 31, will feature a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8:30 a.m.; a children’s program at 9:30 a.m.; and a regular worship service at 10:30 a.m.
