Students excel in annual Enviroquest
Thirty students from the Marion Center Area School District recently won nearly half of the awards in the annual Enviroquest at Jennings Environmental Center near Slippery Rock.
The competition was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Sciences and challenges students at outdoor learning stations, where they answer questions relating to environmental concepts, environmental processes, and identification of Pennsylvania’s plants and animals.
The Marion Center students competed with students from 12 other teams in each of three grade levels.
The six Marion Center teams won 17 of the 36 awards presented, including the 1st and 2nd place Overall Awards in the elementary division, 1st place Overall for the junior high teams and 2nd place Overall in the senior high group.
The Marion Center teams collected a number of awards in the individual categories as well.
The teacher-advisers for the Marion Center teams were Tom Betts, Howard Cattau and Max Falisec.
