Indiana rallies to upset Mars
Riley Stapleton caught a 24-yard pass from Jacob Zilinskas with 4:16 left to play, and Indiana opened the season with a 29-26 upset of Mars in a WPIAL Greater Allegheny Conference game at Andy Kuzneski Field.
Mars led 19-0 in the second quarter, but the Indians stormed back with two touchdowns from Zilinskas to Dylan Stapleton and a fumble return for a score by Ryan Watters to take a 22-19 lead. The Fighting Planets rallied and took the lead back on a 31-yard run by Ori Rinaman, but Zilinskas connected with Riley Stapleton for the winner a few moments later.
Zilinskas completed 13 of 24 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Dylan Stapleton caught five passes for 111 yards and touchdowns of 37 and 4 yards. Riley Stapleton had seven catches for 95 yards and one score.
Mars played most of the game without its two top players, running back Josh Schultheis and defensive tackle Marshall Robinson, both of whom suffered leg injuries in the first half. The Planets had two second-half touchdowns erased by penalties.
