GIRL OF THE MONTH: Jill R. Bender
The Indiana Junior Women’s Civic Club recently named Jill R. Bender, of Indiana, as its Girl of the Month for January.
Jill, 18, is the daughter of Michael and Sherry Bender and is a senior at Indiana Area Senior High School.
She is a member of the Key Club and a member of the executive board. In the Key Club, Jill participated in Love Basket, Spirit Day and Battle of the Faculties. She is a member of Leadership and has been involved with Thon. She is also member of the National Honor Society and has regularly been named to the Honor Roll or High Honor Roll. She participated in Future Business Leaders of America in 10th and 11th grade.
She is currently on the yearbook staff and was involved in the school newspaper in ninth grade. Jill won a scholarship to participate in Pennsylvania Free Enterprise week last summer.
Jill has lettered in volleyball and track and field. Jill’s volleyball team won section championships every season since her freshman year, and WPIAL and state qualifiers her freshman, junior and senior years. She was named to the all-section third team. She also participated in AIVA traveling volleyball for the past three years.
Jill danced at Sharon’s School of Dance for 14 years.
She is a member of St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Church and the Greek Catholic Union.
Jill works at the Indiana County YMCA.
She enjoys spending time with family and friends, fitness and traveling. She has traveled to three countries, 32 states and eight national parks
After high school, Jill plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania and major in safety, health and environmental applied sciences.
