Large cabbage

Elliot Drew, 9, showed off the gigantic cabbage he grew at the home of his great-aunt, Mary Masterson in Shelocta.

Elliot, the son of Andy and Chelsea Fabin, of Homer City, planted the late Dutch cabbage as a seed in May, and, with Masterson’s help, it grew to 10 pounds, 9 ounces with a 41-inch circumference.

All third-graders in Nicole Neal’s class at Homer-Center Elementary School received seeds through the Bonnie Plants program to plant with the hopes of growing the largest.

Elliot would frequently help Masterson water the vegetable at least once a day.
