SALEM TOWNSHIP — An Indiana County man died Tuesday from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash earlier in the day in Westmoreland County.
State police at Kiski Valley said Matthew Notto, 45, of Kent, died at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. No time or cause of death was reported by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigating officer Chad W. Howell said in a news release that the crash occurred Tuesday at 4:52 a.m. at Route 819 and Route 22.
Howell said Notto’s 2012 Nissan Versa struck a tractor-trailer from behind. The truck, a 2018 Mack tractor and 2014 Great Dane trailer, was operated by an unidentified 50-year-old man from Lancaster County.
“Upon troopers’ arrival, the driver of (the Nissan) was entrapped, but alert,” Howell said. “The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Forbes Hospital, where he later succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash.”
The accident and subsequent investigation closed a portion of the eastbound lanes of Route 22 for more than two hours.
Howell said the driver of the tractor-trailer “complained of minor injuries, but was not transported to any medical facility.”
The investigation is ongoing.
