Additional endangerment charge filed
State police in Indiana have filed an additional count of child endangerment against a day care operator accused of allowing her brother to have access to the children in her care despite knowing that he might have molested two girls.
With the latest filing, Crystal L. Pfeiffer, of Crystal L. Pfeiffer Family Day Care Home, at 3161 Dixonville Road in Grant Township, is facing nine counts of endangering the welfare of children.
In this count, state police in Indiana said a 6-year-old boy told them Pfeiffer’s brother, Todd Swaynie, 44, would play with and talk to him while he was at the day care. The boy’s father also told police that he had seen Swaynie at the day care during business hours and that on one occasion saw Swaynie and his son riding around in a golf cart.
Additionally, the father said his son told him Swaynie would put his hands in the boy’s pockets, something that he did with all of the children.
Police said Pfeiffer allowed Swaynie to hang around her home-based day care, despite having reports that he tried to pull a girl’s pants down one time about 10 years ago and that he might have inappropriately touched another girl on two separate occasions.
Pfeiffer remains free on bond. Her day care has been shut down.
Swaynie remains in the Indiana County Jail on charges of aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, indecent assault and attempted indecent assault.
