by on November 01, 2013 10:50 AM

The annual Turkeython, which benefits the United Way of Indiana County and provides food for the less fortunate in Indiana County, is set for 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 23.

During the event, Renda Broadcasting’s Bill Otto of “Oldies Attic” on 1160/WCCS will accept pledges at (724) 479-1160, (724) 349-WCCS and (724) 405-4700.

Each year, the Turkeython provides hundreds of families with grocery gift cards and turkeys from participating stores. The certificates and turkeys are distributed through The Salvation Army and Indiana County Community Action Program in time for Thanksgiving.

Promoting the event, from left, were Greg Sipos, of Philadelphia Square Apartments; host Bill Otto with the Turkeython Turkey mascot; Harry Weimann and Nicole Pickerd, of WyoTech; and Susan Sapko, United Way director.

Chief Photographer Tom Peel has been photographing events in the county since 1966. He started with the Gazette while in high school and then came on board full-time in 1969. So if you do something good, bad or just interesting, he will most likely be there to take your picture. Tom can be reached at or 724-465-5555 ext. 275.
