Area churches announce Easter services

The following area churches will hold services to mark the Easter season:

• Alverda Christian Church, Alverda. Pastor: Prewitt Duncan. Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. with classes for all ages. Morning worship, 10:45 a.m., with special music, Communion observance and a special presentation by the children of the church.

• Ambrose Baptist Church, Marion Center. Pastor: Raymond A.P. Mialki. Easter Sunrise service, 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

• Black Lick Circuit United Methodist Churches. Easter sunrise service, 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Hopewell UMC, 150 Hopewell Road, Blairsville, A brief service of rejoicing, followed by doughnuts and coffee.

• Blairsville United Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Walnut St. Early worship, 8:30 a.m. Sunday, “Props for Easter,” Sunday School Children. Preacher: The Rev. Timothy Monroe. Scripture: Luke 24:1-12. Easter breakfast, 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Easter worship, 11 a.m., Preacher: The Rev. Timothy Monroe. Scripture: Colossians 3:1-4 and Matthew 28:1-10.

• Calvary Bible Church, 2712 Pine Vale Road, Rochester Mills. Early service, 8 a.m. Sunday, followed by a covered-dish fellowship breakfast. Easter cantata, 11 a.m. Sunday. Evening service, 6 p.m. Sunday.

• Calvary Presbyterian Church, 695 School St., Indiana. Easter pancake breakfast, 8:30-9:30 a.m.; Easter journey, 9-10:30 a.m.; and worship service, 11 a.m., featuring organ, brass and Chancel Choir, with the Rev. David J. Hanna preaching.

• Christ Episcopal Church, 902 Philadelphia St., Indiana, Easter Sunday services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. There will be no Christian education classes.

• Christ Our Savior Orthodox Church, three miles west of Clymer off Route 286. Easter Sunday (Pascha), Divine Liturgy of the Resurrection, blessing of children’s Easter baskets, 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Bright Monday, Paschal Vespers, 10 am. April 21.

• Clymer United Methodist Church. Easter service, 11 a.m. Sunday.

• Cornerstone Worship Center, 500 Lenz Road, White Township. Easter sunrise service, 6:30 a.m. Sunday, first person drama with the Rev. Walt Marr presenting the events of resurrection from the view of the Roman soldier at the tomb of Jesus, breakfast will follow. Easter service, 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Paul Price, sermon: “How Jesus Left the Napkin Says It All,” concluding the message of “The Three Places a Napkin Is Mentioned in the New Testament.” Video presentation, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, John Bevere’s book, “A Heart Ablaze,” titled, “God’s Great Grace.” (724) 465-9911.

• Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church. Easter sunrise service, 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

• Dayton United Methodist Church. Easter sunrise service, 7 a.m. Sunday, Contemporary Worship Band, followed by a continental breakfast. Easter worship service, 10:55 a.m. Sunday, Preacher Dennis Howard, sermon: “The Empty Tomb — What Does It Mean to You?” No Sunday evening service.

• Diamondville United Methodist Church. Easter sunrise service, 7 a.m., then breakfast, 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Easter service, 9 a.m. Sunday.

• Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lewisville. Easter sunrise service, 7:30 a.m. Sunday; continental breakfast to follow.

• Ernest Bible Church. Easter Sunrise service, 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school, 9:45 a.m. Worship, 11 a.m. No evening worship. Preacher: The Rev. John Sykes.

• First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 500 Water St., Indiana. Easter egg hunt and children’s activities, 2:30 to 4 p.m. today. Call Suzie at (724) 349-4669 to register. Easter sunrise service, 7 a.m. Sunday, followed by breakfast. Easter morning worship hour, 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

• First Baptist Church, Glen Campbell. Sacred Worship and Liturgy of Easter, 8 a.m., Sunday. The Rev. Dr. Allan N. Campbell will preach a sermon message, “God’s Power To Turn Things Out … Differently Than We Expected!,” based on the Gospel of St. Matthew 28:1-10. Dr. Joseph Clark will be the serving Deacon. Following the Communion service, the annual Easter congregational photo will be taken and then everyone will be invited to enjoy a light breakfast and social hour in Fellowship Hall. There will be Easter treat baskets for all children.

• First Unitarian Universalist Church, Indiana. Easter pancake breakfast, 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Preacher: The Rev. Joan M. Sabatino. Worship associate: Nonna Randal. Special music: Lori Rittle, piano.

• Grace United Methodist Church, Seventh and Church streets, Indiana. Contemporary service in the Fellowship Hall, 5 p.m. Saturday. Easter services Sunday: 6:30 a.m. Sunrise service, Blue Spruce Park; 8:30 a.m. contemporary service, at GUMC; 9:45 a.m. contemporary service, Indiana County YMCA; and 11 a.m. traditional service, GUMC. Sermon: “Help Me! — It Wasn’t on My Map — The Empty Tomb” (Final message in the 10-part Lenten and Easter series “Help Me! I Can’t Do It Alone.”)

• Grove Chapel-Harmony Grove Lutheran Parish. • Homer City United Methodist Church. Easter sunrise service, 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Jacksonville Road Hill. Breakfast, 7:30 a.m. Sunday, at the church. Easter worship, 10:40 a.m. Sunday, special music and children’s time. Sunday school and decoration of the Living Cross, 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

• Independent Traditional Holiness Church, 5065 Ferguson Road, Indiana. Easter Sunrise service, 7 a.m. Sunday, in the parking lot facing the cross. Following the service, breakfast will be served in the Fellowship building. In case of rain, the service will be held in the Fellowship hall. The children and youths of the church will present an Easter program at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, followed by worship at 10:40 a.m. A 6 p.m. service will also be held Easter Sunday.

• SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Homer City. Resurrection Matins, 6 p.m. today, followed by blessing of baskets. Great and Holy Pascha, 10 a.m. Sunday, Divine Liturgy.

• St. Anne Byzantine Catholic Church, 360 Franklin St., Clymer. Pastor: The Rev. Father William A. Lascelles. Pascha, Matins of the Resurrection, Divine Liturgy followed by blessing of the baskets, 8 p.m. today.

• St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Dixonville. Great Saturday procession with the Matins of Resurrection, followed by blessing of the baskets of Paschal foods, 7 p.m. today. Divine Liturgy, 10 a.m. Sunday. Pussy willows will be blessed and distributed at the end of liturgy. Easter Sunday Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 11 a.m. Sunday. Following the Divine Liturgy, children’s Easter baskets will be blessed and there will be an Easter egg hunt for the children.

• St. Jude Thaddeus Byzantine Catholic Church, 320 Main St., Ernest. Pastor: The Rev. Father William A. Lascelles. Pascha, Matins of Resurrection, Divine Liturgy followed by blessing of the baskets, 9 a.m. Sunday.

• St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, 465 Morris St., Clymer. Divine Liturgy, Great and Holy Pascha, 10 a.m. Sunday; blessing of baskets will follow the liturgy.

• St. Thomas More University Parish, 1200 Oakland Ave., Indiana. Easter vigil 8:45 p.m. today. Easter Mass, 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday. Overflow seating will be available in the parish lounge for the Easter Sunday Masses. There will be no 7 p.m. Mass on Easter Sunday.

• Starford United Methodist Church. Easter service, 10 a.m. Sunday.

• Tanoma United Methodist Church. Easter service, 11 a.m. Sunday.

• Trinity United Methodist Church, Indiana. Worship with Chancel Choir Cantata, 5 p.m. today. Easter morning worship, 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday.

• United Methodist Charge for Christ. Charge Easter sunrise service, 7 a.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion, followed by breakfast. Pastor DeLuca at Mt. Zion, Cochran’s Mill and Elderton, Sunday. Pastor Lindahl at Whitesburg and Rural Valley, Sunday.

• Zion Lutheran Church, Sixth and Church streets. Vigil of Easter, 8 p.m. today. Easter Liturgy, 10 a.m. Sunday.
