ARSD: New member appointed to board
A Kiskiminetas Township resident was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Apollo-Ridge school board Monday night.
On an 8-0 vote, the board named Dan Obriot, 40, to fill the seat left vacant by Kathleen Taylor.
Taylor resigned her seat in July after she took on more responsibilities in her role as a pastor. Obriot will now serve the remainder of her term, which expires December 2009.
Obriot owns OB Milling, an architectural wood mill. He has a son and two nephews in the school district. He said he applied for the position because he felt he could offer something to the community and the children.
In other matters, the board accepted the resignations of Brad Holmes, eighth-grade boys' basketball coach; Lynne Snyder, curriculum director; Jocelyn Ursiak, a high school guidance counselor; Mikelann Holtz, a middle school learning support teacher; and Michael Fox, a high school physical education teacher.
Also, the board hired Kathleen Pryjmak, of Ruffsdale, as a reading support teacher; Jacob Petras, of Ford City, as a technology education teacher; Kristen Carson, of Rural Valley; as an athletic trainer; Jennifer Kulick, of Leechburg, as a learning support teacher; Desiree Syster, of Shelocta, as a science teacher; and Janetta Thomas, of Indiana, as a guidance counselor.
