Austrian brass septet returns to IUP
Continuing into its 2013-14 Ovations! season, the Lively Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will host an encore performance by a septet that combines music with a heavy dose of absurdist theater, Mnozil Brass.
This one-night performance will take place at 8 p.m. Friday in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.
Since first performing once a month at a very small tavern across the road from the renowned Vienna College of Music, which the members attended, Mnozil Brass has managed to develop a unique style.
They blend this style of humor and comedic antics with musical elements of Austrian and German folk music as well as rearrangements of classical, jazz and pop pieces.
Just over 20 years after those performances in that Vienna pub, Mnozil has traveled worldwide, performing at such venues as the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and London’s Royal Albert Hall.
This year’s theme, “Happy Birthday,” is their jubilant celebration of that success.
They first appeared in Indiana two seasons ago to wild, thunderous success.
Their return marks their first stop in this year’s U.S. tour that includes Michigan, California, North Carolina and Florida.
Tickets for Friday’s event are available now at the Hadley Union Building ticket office on the IUP campus or online at IUPTickets.com.
They can also be purchased by calling the HUB ticket office at (724) 357-1313. Remaining tickets can be purchased at the door an hour prior to the performance.
This concert is presented as part of IUP’s International Education Week activities.
The Ovations! series is funded, in part, by donations through the Premiere Club, business sponsorships, grants and the IUP Student Cooperative Association.
