Beeken's group advances on 'X Factor'
Fans of Restless Road were thrown a curveball Thursday night on “The X Factor” when, in a dramatic ending, viewers were kept in suspense as to whether the group would make it to the next round.
Indiana’s Zach Beeken is a member of the three-man country group, which in the end moved on to the top eight finalists after their performance of Coldplay’s “Fix You” on the Fox TV show Wednesday evening.
This week’s show was a double-elimination round.
Despite judge Simon Cowell’s note that their performance was “one of the best of the night,” the other judges weren’t so sure.
“I expect a lot from Restless Road and I feel like this week you all needed more,” said judge and pop singer Kelly Rowland. “It needed to be more cohesive. It needs to be even tighter.”
Beeken himself even took a hit on the show from Rowland.
“Zach, you gotta loosen up, baby, I don’t know what you gotta do,” she said. “I don’t know if you all need to shake him or what.”
Before the performance on Wednesday’s show, Beeken’s “shyness” was addressed. In an attempt to make him less “awkward,” the 17-year-old singer was sent out on the streets of Los Angeles to “pick up chicks.”
Cameras filmed from afar as Beeken attempted to go out of his comfort zone, finally grabbing the attention of a girl with the line, “Hey, I really like your shirt. Can I have your number?”
Breaking out of his comfort zone on the show in front of millions of viewers, though, is a different feat all together. Beeken said on the show Thursday that he needs to step up his game.
“I don’t want to be the reason that we’re going home,” he said.
