Boil-water notice still in effect

by The Indiana Gazette on May 01, 2014 11:00 AM

A boil-water advisory remained in effect this morning for certain customers of the Indiana County Municipal Services Authority.

The authority is telling customers whose water comes from its Crooked Creek plant to continue boiling water for one minute before drinking it, using it to brush teeth or to prepare food.

The authority issued the advisory on Friday after finding that filters weren’t performing up to expectations, slightly increasing the risk of microbial contamination.

The authority said although it has since retested the water and found its quality to be meeting regulations, it is awaiting a go-ahead from the state Department of Environmental Protection before lifting the advisory.

The authority was to have spoken to DEP officials this morning, but no word was available by press time on the outcome of the conversation.
