Boy Scout troop to hold flag retirement
MARION CENTER — Boy Scout Troop 50 will hold an American Flag retirement ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday at the community park across from Marion Center Area High School.
The troop is holding the Flag Day ceremony to burn worn and damaged flags and to bury the ashes in the proper manner. All area residents are invited to attend the ceremony and to bring old flags for disposal.
The board of directors of the Marion Center Park Association approved the ceremony at its recent annual meeting.
The directors also re-elected Bill McMillen as president and Virginia McMahan as secretary-treasurer and elected Don Stitt as vice president.
Loretta Forsythe, Butch Pritchard and Stitt also were elected to three-year terms on the board of directors. Stitt and Pritchard succeed Gary Mencer and John Como, who did not seek re-election.
Other board members are Bertha Ackerson, Gregg Sacco, Don Peffer and Don Wissinger. The board also accepted eight new members into the association.
The board approved participating in the borough’s community yard sale July 27. The association raised $500 last year from cash contributions and items donated for the association to sell. This year, space will be available for area residents to rent at $10 each in the park and the park building. For information on renting space or donating items for the association to sell, call Loretta Forsythe, (724) 397-2318 or Virginia McMahan, (724) 397-8938.
In other action, the board received a report that Troop 50 donated $100 to the association.
The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 in the park building. Meetings are open to the public.
