CANDIDATE: Barbara Levine (Democrat)
Barbara Levine has experience in banking and at the county Tax Assessment Office, and currently works with revenue and tax collection for the Indiana County Treasurer’s office.
So becoming tax collector is “a natural progression for me,” she said.
“I’ve already been serving the taxpayers in my current position, I am really familiar with it, I have taken my own time to learn the position in detail.”
Now in her 12th year at the Treasurer’s office, Levine said she works with per capita and property taxes already and is familiar with other tax collectors in the county and tax collection process.
“It’s a good opportunity and I see a lot of ways I can help the taxpayers with information that they don’t currently have,” she said.
For example, she said taxpayers should remember to pay even small per capita tax bills quickly, since bills grow when they’re sent to collections. Residents should make sure the tax collector knows when they move into or out of the township.
And she said she can help with questions about reassessment.
Levine said she’ll lease an office at a convenient location and focus full time on being tax collector.
“I’ll do all I can to make tax paying as convenient and pain-free as possible,” she said.
“I’d be proud to be their tax collector and I’ll work hard for them and I tried to be respectful when I put up my campaign signs. … I’m sincere when I say I’d like to help them.”
She and her husband, Jonathan, have two children.
