CANDIDATE: Denise Clawson (Republican)
With a property value reassessment effort under way in the county, Denise Clawson said the tax collector will be the first person confused taxpayers speak to about the changes on their bills.
It’s critical, she said, to have a collector “who can address concerns, work with the county commissioners and the reassessment office, and be another person out in the community who can help with the whole process.”
Clawson is vice president of Marion Center Bank, where she manages the Indian Springs office, and has more than 40 years experience in financial services.
Her financial background and strong customer relations skills qualify her for the position, she said.
From the banking side, she said she understands that bankers and realtors need to be able to reach the tax collector and receive accurate information.
“I’ve been in contact with different tax collectors throughout my career,” she said.
“I would want to dedicate full time to the tax collector position.”
If elected, she said she would take continuing education courses and become a certified tax collector.
“I know that it is not a requirement, (but) this is something that I would do,” she said.
She graduated from Indiana Area High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she specialized in finance and accounting.
A lifelong resident of Indiana County, she and her husband, Bob, have three sons and a grandson.
