Indiana, PA - Indiana County

CANDIDATE: Donna Cupp (Republican)

Donna Cupp is the only candidate currently holding public office. An Indiana County auditor since 2011, she also served for four years as the White Township auditor and for 13 years on the Indiana County Board of Assessment Appeals.

“I’ve been involved in public service for quite some time,” she said.

She said she does not believe any of the other candidates have ever been elected to public office. “I don’t recall seeing anybody’s name on the ballot before for anything,” she said.

Cupp pointed out that she was unopposed for the White Township Auditor position, which paid $10 an hour. Now that there’s a more lucrative position open, the field is crowded, she said.

“My focus has always been on public service, (and) I’ve been willing to serve in lesser positions,” she said.

The tax collector position is basically clerical: receiving and disbursing funds and keeping accurate records, something that is “right up my alley,” she said.

And her experience as an auditor and on the Board of Appeals means she is familiar with the tax collection process.

“It’s also a customer service position,” she said. “People want a friendly, smiling tax collector, someone they can relate to. I’d like to provide friendly service.”

If elected, Cupp would give up her position as county auditor, she said.

Cupp is married to Jim Cupp, president of Ardiem Medical. She has also been self-employed as an Avon independent sales representative for more than 25 years, she said.
