CANDIDATE: Thomas Campisano (Republican)
Thomas Campisano is a deputy sheriff and firearms instructor at the Indiana County Sheriff’s office, and he said he hopes to add safety training to his responsibilities if elected tax collector.
“I felt that I was more than qualified to do that job,” he said.
When he learned about the compensation, “that opened up all new avenues for me to be able to do things that I want to do to be able to provide back to the county,” he said.
He said he has been providing classes on firearms, security or personal safety — such as teaching the public the safest place to park at a grocery store — and that he would use some of the tax collector compensation to offer more classes.
“This position as tax collector gives me the opportunity to bring people in to do courses,” he said. “I can foot that bill and give back to the community.”
Besides law enforcement, Campisano has worked in insurance and finance for several organizations including Reschini Insurance, S&T Bank and Beneficial Consumer Discount Co. He also was sales manager.
If elected, he said he would provide evening office hours.
“I would say dedication to the citizens of Indiana (sets me apart).
“That’s my job now. But that’s what I live by. If I can do something for somebody, I will,” he said.
A lifelong county resident, Campisano graduated from Indiana Area High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
He and his wife, Brandi, have two children.
